Bio Seaweed Gel Review

Hello, hello! Today I have for you a in depth review on Bio Seaweed Gel. I was intending to do this review next week but because of the wedding that I'm attending tomorrow (YIPEE! :D) I decided that it was time to take the gel polish off and have a clean mani (with no signs of growth haha.. it shall be explained later). So if you're interested in learning more about Bio Seaweed Gel Polish (or just about gel polish in general), this review is for you! *WARNING* This is a very extensive review -- it's made for people who are truly interested in gel polish.
Bio Seaweed Gel Review
I am wearing Strawberry Kiss (#117) by BSG. It's one of their UNITY All-In-One Colour Gel Polish and I'll be basing my entire review off of this.

So first off, what is gel polish for those that don't know? Well, basically gel polish is like any other polish except it's designed to be worn for weeks at a time. Yes, gel polish can go chip FREE for 2+ weeks. This polish can be applied to your natural or artificial nails too. Now how is Bio Seaweed Gel different from other gel polishes? Basically this: It's safe, quick, and user friendly. I'll try to explain more in greater detail but be sure to check out their FAQ page for more info. I'm going to be giving you my true thoughts on this product but to learn much more, read their page! Let's learn how to apply Bio Seaweed Gel with this mini tutorial thing I made.

So this is what I mean by BSG being extremely quick and user friendly! To apply, make sure your nails (natural or artificial) are clean of all polish and oils by wiping off with rubbing alcohol (70% alcohol). Then apply ONE VERY THIN coat onto your nails. Don't worry if the color isn't opaque! It's not supposed to be with just one coat. You also must be doing this inside a building because if you're outside, the heat is going to dry up your bottle's brush. Trust me on this.. bahaha you learn from mistakes. ;)

Next, stick your nails either in the sun outside or in a professional LED/UV lamp. The great thing about the UNITY polishes is that they can cure in the sun so anyone can have gel nails. It depends on how warm it is outside but my nails did cure (dry) in a minute. It was like 95 degrees Fahrenheit that day so if you're somewhere cooler, do take that into consideration. And once again, make sure you have THIN coats of gel on!

Finally, just repeat steps 1 & 2 until you get the opaqueness of the polish color you want. BSG says you only need 2 coats of their polish but I had to go with 3 because 2 still showed streaks. I wouldn't do any more than 3 layers though because the gel polish gets thick!

So now that you know a little bit about the basics of gel polish, I'm going to start my review. Like I mentioned before, if you have more questions/concerns, check out BSG FAQ page because they answer ALL of them! It's a fantastic page. When you order, you also receive very informative directions with the product so you know that you'll be using it correctly! So let's get started. :) Here I'm wearing Strawberry Kiss (#117) -- Day 1.

My Thoughts On Gel Polish

I loved how shiny the gel polish turned out to be! It was extremely easy to use and the results were perfect. It does take some practice to perfect the gel nails though so I recommend trying one nail at a time (rather than doing both hands at the same time) so that you get used to it. I also loved how you could do nail art ON TOP OF BSG Polish! If you use regular polish on top of the gel, just remove with acetone and the gel will still be underneath. ;) So great! Like they promised, this gel would NOT chip at all or have wear on the tips. And they were right! Plus with the UNITY polish, you don't need a base or topcoat. :)

Personally, I wouldn't wear BSG polish often though. It's not because I don't like the product though! It's just a personal thing. I didn't really like how you had the same polish on underneath for so long and when your nails did grow out, it was hard to do nail art and make it look "normal". But that isn't really their fault. Haha, this product just isn't for me! It'd be PERFECT for people that rarely have time to do their nails though or like wearing the same color for a week or two! I just have a hard time doing that haha... Another thing I didn't really like about the BSG polish is the removal process. I tried both ways they suggest -- the foil method and then soaking your nails in acetone. (More info in their FAQ page). I found that soaking your nails turned out to be easier for me and I actually timed the 5 minute thing and it wasn't ready after 5 minutes. I needed like 8 but I think the 3rd coat (which they didn't suggest but is needed) might be a factor in there. One last thing that I hated was the smell. Eek! I have a sensitive nose and the smell of the gel was very, very strong and I hated the way the bottle smelt! As soon as it was on your nails and cured it didn't smell but putting it on was a pain for me. :/

Again, day 1. The appearance is so shiny!

And day 7! You can see there is some growth! There is absolutely NO chipping on day 7. :) I really, really wanted to go all 14 days but like I said.. the wedding guys. :/ I'm so sorry! I couldn't do a good mani because the growth gap was becoming too large. I do love how the product is quite serious about how long it lasts.

And one last picture of day 7. Giraffe included. ;) You can see my growth gaps even better now.

Okay, so you read my own pros and cons. Be sure to check out other bloggers posts for their own opinions so you don't solely judge the product on mine! I do really like Bio Seaweed Gel but it's just not for the nail art fanatics like me. It's more for the busy women that want gorgeous, long last nails but don't have the time to do their nails often/can NOT have chipping polish. At only $18 for a do it yourself gel manicure, I think BSG knows what they're doing. ;) Check out their UNITY gel polish line here along with many other helpful products (like a LED/UV Lamp)! Also find Bio Seaweed Gel on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. :)

Your Polish Pal,
Jenna

  1. I found your blog very helpful. I wear Gel nail polish all the time & when i heard about BSG I thought maybe I should try. Love that it is a Canadian product also. But I will have to wait til summer to try considering that it is now winter and won't dry naturally.

    1. Yay! I'm so glad this post helped! :) I actually put this gel polish a month ago (it was about 50F) and it stilled cured. It actually didn't take much longer than during the summer because it's just using natural light. That is, if you're willing to stand outside for up to 5 minutes lol!!! But definitely, definitely try out this during the warmer months if you wear gel manicures often :) You'll love the product! These girls are great. ;)
